MAPLE VALLEY - One person was killed and 10 others injured in a three-car accident Sunday afternoon near Maple Valley.
Washington State Patrol identified the person killed as Aleksandr P. Nechitaylo, 48, of Kent.
The accident happened around 3:30 p.m. on State Route 18.
Renee E. Parmelee, 37, of Poulsbo was driving westbound when she crossed the center line and struck a minivan, said State Patrol spokeswoman Monica Hunter. Parmelee's car then smashed head-on into Nechitaylo's westbound Toyota Camry. Nechitaylo died at the scene.
Three other people in the Camry, Iliy, 14; Gene, 10, and Lidiya Nechitaylo, 47, were transported to Harborview Medical Center, as was Parmelee and her passenger, 8-year-old Kelly Parmelee.
Parmelee and the children were all listed in satisfactory condition, a nursing supervisor said Sunday night. Lidiya Nechitaylo was in serious condition.
Five people in the minivan suffered minor injuries, Hunter said. They include Ivan, 42, and Luyda Nechitaylo, 34, and children Ivan, 15, Alina, 11, and Zhanna, 8.
Investigators suspect Parmelee fell asleep at the wheel, before veering into the oncoming lane, Hunter said.
"At this point, we're not looking at felony charges," she said.
